POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
University of Minnesota

Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Minnesota -Twin Cities, to conduct mass spectrometry studies of the formation and repair of bifunctional DNA and protein adducts of 1,3-butadiene.

Primary responsibilities include HPLC-ESI-MS/MS method development and analysis of structurally modified DNA and proteins in samples from cell culture, animal tissues, and human blood. Experience with mass spectrometry techniques is important. Mass spectrometry instrumentation available for this project includes TSQ Quantum Ultra Triple Stage Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer, TSQ Vantage Triple Stage Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer, and LTQ Orbitrap.

BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST/TOXICOLOGIST
Lawrence-Livermore National Laboratory

Description. The Biology and Biotechnology Division of the Physical and Life Sciences Directorate has an exciting opportunity for an established scientist with extensive experience in Toxicology to work as a Biomedical Scientist/Toxicologist. Will develop a research program investigating the adverse effects of organophosphates and will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists to develop methods to measure organophosphate exposure in humans, and to establish the safety of potential approaches to organophosphate decontamination. Will also be expected to assist in risk assessment of decontamination methods. Will report to the Pharmacology and Toxicology Group Leader.

Essential Duties
 - Develop, oversee and conduct research into the toxicology of various chemical agents.
 - Serve as a principal investigator and technical point of contact for work on the safety of chemical toxicants.
 - Lead and mentor groups of researchers on a variety of research projects, both internally and externally funded. 

 Essential skills, knowledge, and abilities 
- PhD in toxicology, pharmacology, pathology or equivalent level of demonstrated knowledge.
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of histology, biochemistry, cell biology and/or chemistry, and tissue culture.
- Experience in biochemical or chemical toxicology.
- Advanced experience working with rodents.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and experience working independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Substantial publication record in peer-reviewed literature and experience presenting research results.

Desired skills, knowledge, and abilities  Experience with organophophosphate insecticides or chemical agents, and experience in Good Laboratory Practices.

Salary range.   $85,000 - 170,000.

Program Director, Cancer Etiology Branch

Position:  The Division of Cancer Biology (DCB), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH) seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Program Director (Health Scientist Administrator), in the Cancer Etiology Branch of DCB. 

Description:  As Program Director in the Cancer Etiology Branch, you will have responsibilities for program planning, development, program management, and scientific direction of the Chemical and Physical Carcinogenesis Program. You will be involved in the management of an existing portfolio of grants focusing on the role of chemical carcinogens, their chemistry, their metabolites, their interactions with cellular DNA, RNA and protein, and the molecular, cellular and organism changes that occur during the development of neoplasia. You will utilize your knowledge and expertise to encourage research and develop the portfolio, and will coordinate and oversee the scientific, administrative, and fiscal aspects of grants and contracts in the portfolio, evaluate the projects for scientific progress, programmatic relevance and merit, and monitor project completion. You may also serve as the NCI representative or alternate representative on interagency committees concerned with chemical carcinogenesis and other toxicological effects, including environmental agents.

You will serve as a resource for DCB and Office of the Director (OD) staff  in the area of chemical carcinogenesis and the metabolism of carcinogens and toxins, particularly those involved in lung and liver carcinogenesis, leading to DNA damage and cancer initiation.   In addition, the Program Director leads, maintains liaison with, and provides expert information to the Initial Review Groups (IRGs) of the Center for Scientific Review; interacts with staff of the Office of Grants Administration (OGA) on programmatic issues, participates in reviewing budget information; recommends funding levels; and promotes coordination and collaboration among investigators.

Requirements: Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Biological, Physical, Medical, or Health Sciences, or its equivalent.

Position: The National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL) of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting applications through December 3, 2010 for approximately 22 federal, three-year post-doctoral research positions.  Position ERD-11-3 is located in Athens, GA.

Description:   We are seeking an individual for this position to develop innovative approaches based on physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling, molecular modeling, quantitative structure activity relationships (QSARs), etc. to characterize chemical exposure and develop models to prioritize chemicals for risk evaluation.  The individual will be a member of an integrated research team that measures xenobiotic absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination (ADME), and utilizes this data to develop and parameterize models for characterizing and predicting exposure of xenobiotics to humans and ecologically important species.

 Post-Doctoral Research Opportunity

Laboratory: The U.S. Food & Drug Administration/National Center For Toxicological Research

Description: A position is immediately available for a postdoctoral researcher to conduct studies of pharmacokinetics, metabolism, and mechanisms for botanical estrogens. The successful candidate will need strong analytical skills to characterize and quantify estrogenic compounds and their metabolites in plasma, urine, and tissues. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to master qualitative and quantitative aspects of modern atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometry. The successful candidate will be supported by strong instrumental resources, including 4 triple quadrupole mass spectrometers and a hybrid Q-Tof/Ion Mobility Spectrometer, all equipped with UPLCs.

Qualifications: An earned Ph. D. in Toxicology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or equivalent is required. Experience in mass spectrometry, chromatographic separations, pharmacokinetics, PBPK modeling, and drug metabolism is desirable.
