Message from Chair

Greetings to all TOXI members. I am pleased to share the details of the upcoming virtual half-day Minisymposium on Friday, March 26, 2021, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (EST). This meeting on the overall theme “Cellular Stress and Metabolism” will include scientific talks by Rebecca Fry, (UNC Chapel Hill), Clementina Mesaros (U. Penn), Kate Carroll (Scripps), followed by Meet the Speakers social and an Open Meeting. Meeting registration is free and open to all members and non-members. Please invite your colleagues to register before March 25th!

The Fall 262nd ACS National Meeting & Exposition in Atlanta, GA (Aug 22, 2021 – Aug 26, 2021) will be conducted as a combination of virtual and in-person formats. The theme of the national meeting is Resilience of Chemistry. The TOXI keynote address will be delivered by Patrick Breysse from the Centers for Disease Control. The Founders’ Award symposium will be organized by the awardee John Essigmann, MIT.  The CRT Young Investigator award winner is Christie Sayes.

Thematic symposia include (1) TOXI at 25: 25th anniversary symposium, (2) thinking outside the well: novel assays in drug discovery and development, co-sponsored with MEDI, (3) harnessing the microbiome for disease prevention and therapy, and (4) toxicants and cellular aging, co-sponsored with BIOL.

The Student and Postdoctoral Scholar Symposium and Topics sessions and the poster session will accept presentations from submitted abstracts. Abstract submission is now open and closes on April 12. Application details for travel awards and registration scholarships will be announced later. This will be a great opportunity for publishing and mentoring of young scientists.

We are looking forward to seeing you virtually or in Atlanta!

Chair, ACS Division of Chemical Toxicology

Student and Postdoc Fall 2021 ACS Registration Fellowships – Chemical Research in Toxicology Publications

To encourage the participation of young TOXI scientists and to facilitate the interactions between trainees and established TOXI scientists, Dr. Michael Trakselis led a new program to recruit TOXI trainees to write up synapses and perspectives on Award Speakers and Programmatic Sessions. As an incentive, student authors were awarded ACS registration scholarships. The division plans on continuing this in the future as a way to recruit and engage young scientists. Please be on the lookout for this program in future TOXI meetings!
