Postdoctoral position in the Section on Gene Targeting,
Laboratory of Molecular Gerontology

The National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting for a postdoctoral position in the Section on Gene Targeting, Laboratory of Molecular Gerontology.

Replication of the genome is hindered by numerous impediments, including alternate DNA structures, protein DNA complexes, and chemical adducts. Failure to overcome them can result in cell death, cellular senescence, and/or genomic rearrangements which may be cancer-inducing. Understanding how normal and tumor cells respond to these challenges is the subject of intense investigation. We have discovered a novel replication restart pathway through which replisomes overcome replication blocks (Mol. Cell 52, 434, 2013; Cell Reports, 27, 1794, 2019). The new pathway is driven by two different versions of the replisome, active in different stages of the S phase. Currently, we are defining the enzymes and accessory factors that support the pathway and the importance for normal and challenged replication.

A postdoctoral position to participate in this program is available for an individual with training in chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology, and an interest in the cellular response to replication stress and genome integrity.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. with less than five years of relevant postdoctoral experience. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and references to Michael Seidman, Ph.D., Chief, Section on Gene Targeting, Laboratory of Molecular Gerontology, NIA-NIH, Laboratory of Molecular Gerontology, 251 Bayview Blvd, Baltimore, MD 21224 USA.
